Mark Wirtz (3 September 1943 – 7 August 2020)

He was a record producer, composer, singer, musician, author, and comedian. He was best known for the never-completed A Teenage Opera concept album, a project he devised while working under contract to EMI at Abbey Road Studios with Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick. The first single from the planned album, "Excerpt from A Teenage Opera" by Keith West, was a number 2 hit on the UK Singles Chart in September 1967.

Some may recognise this track, which he also arranged and produced.

 
Mark Wirtz (3 September 1943 – 7 August 2020)

'Excerpt from A Teenage Opera' was a staple diet of Ed Stewart's Junior Choice on Radio 1 when I was growing up in the early 70s.

Today's bit of trivia- In the 1979 Porridge film the prison kitchen assistant played by Zoot Money ( he pours loads of curry powder into the curry causing Mr McKay to sneeze his false teeth into it :D) was named Lotterby in a nod to Syd.
